The best places on Phuket for sundowner beers

One of our favorite island pastimes is knocking back a few cold ones as the sun sets. And when you’re island hopping, you can’t help but become a bit of a sunset connoisseur. In the largest and most diverse Thai island, Phuket, the sundowner options are unparalleled. Gather your friends and head to these spots for an epic view and perfect end to your day (or a perfect beginning to your night).

Kata Beach on the island’s west coast is perfectly positioned to take in the colorful Phuket sunset. Head to Ska Bar, right on the southern tip of Kata overlooking the long white sand beach. Climb up the steep steps carved out of the hillside, and take in the view. The night’s not over when the sun sets though. After looking up at the sunset, focus your attention down to the sand where fire dancers put on nightly shows.

If you’re in the mood for something even more chill, head down to Sabai Corner on Kata Noi. It’s a up a twisty path, but once you find this place you’ll be rewarded with an amazing sunset view. Grab a beer and look out onto the lush jungle around you. You’ll have a panoramic 360 degree view of the sandy shores of Kata Noi and the Kata Beach headland jutting out in front of you.

While celebs might flock to the lux Baba Nest at Sri Panwa, we prefer a more under the radar sunset experience while island hopping. After Beach Bar is known as a sunset destination, but due to its jungle location perched in the trees overlooking Kata Beach, it won’t be as crowded as shoreline venues. If you ask us, this makes it a great spot for a relaxed drinks with friends. Get a seat out on the balcony and order some classic island dishes to go with that beer.

Another epic sunset spot on Phuket’s west coast is Surin Beach. A little more upscale than Kata Noi, on Surin you’ll find classy restaurants that double as beach clubs. Zazada, Catch and Bimi are all located right on the shoreline. With DJs spinning beachy tunes and day beds right on the sand, these clubs all offer a relaxed, party atmosphere. And front row seats to beautiful island sunsets every evening.

If you’d prefer to get off the beaten path to enjoy a sunset, head to an island viewpoint with a few cold beers in your backpack. On Phuket, hike out to Promthep Cape and grab a prime seat on the rocks to enjoy the view. Cheers!
